Dear HART,
I am writing to you to inform you that our dog, Bailey Sweet Pea Wilson (formerly Betsy1) sadly passed away on August 14, 2019. I would like to provide additional details about the caring, loving nature of Bailey. We adopted Bailey on July 4th, 2009. We always said it was her Independence Day. From that day onward, she became an integral family member and cherished by all who met her. Upon adopting her we were told that she was born on June 1, 2006, which made her 3 years old at the time of adoption. For a 3-year-old dog, she had the energy of a rambunctious puppy that was always running to greet us at the door, and always wanting to play with other dogs in the area. Bailey made many fur friends as well through her stays at doggie daycare and at local parks. Over the years, Bailey taught us so much about love, patience, and perseverance with her kind and beautiful soul. While she may have been 45 lbs, she always felt the best place was in our lap. She was truly lapdog and always wanted to be on the sofa and as close to her family as possible. While Bailey had no health problems during her younger years, as she grew older, her age began to show. In September 2016, she had a terrible seizure and was admitted into Hope Center in Vienna, VA. It was there we discovered that she had cancer. While this was a very hard truth to face, we knew she was a strong dog and we were determined to do everything in our power to fight against this terrible disease. She underwent chemotherapy for an entire year which involved numerous doctors appointments and checkups with our primary vet Sully Animal Hospital and the Hope Center. I am also sure that the medication was also difficult for her but, her strength and perseverance shined once again. She outlived her prognosis by 3 years (2 year and 11 months to be exact) and continued to have a very comfortable life as a senior dog and continued being cared for by our local vet in Annandale - Sunshine Animal Hospital. Two months after her 13th birthday, our sweet and beautiful dog Bailey passed away on August 14th. While we are still grieving for the loss of our beloved Bailey, we take comfort in the 10 years we had building memories with her as she was a key connection for both of our families. We would also like to thank you HART, for rescuing our beautiful dog and giving us a chance to care for her as a member of our family and for her to enrich our lives. We love Bailey so much and miss her dearly.
