Ginger came to HART from a very rural and poor county in VA. This sweet mother was left at the shelter with her 5 little puppies (see the Ginger's pups on our website). Ginger was very friendly and gentle with the shelter staff but her puppies were very scared and unsure of humans. It was obvious that Ginger must have been living outside and/or with little to no positive human interaction given how scared her puppies were of people. Whatever these circumstances were, Ginger managed to keep her tiny puppies healthy and well cared for and very loved. She is in a foster home now and listen to what Ginger's very experienced foster family has said of Ginger: "Ginger is a great dog. She is a fun and an engaging dog who loves adults and kids and does really well with our dog. It took her all of 30 seconds to remember how comfortable it is on the sofa. She jumped up, rolled around and promptly went to sleep. This mama deserves some rest after raising five healthy pups. In just a few short days she started to relax. She learned "sit" right away and pays close attention to the adults and kids in her foster home. She is crate trained, likes toys and other dogs, and is an excellent snuggler (as you can see from her profile picture). She is learning to walk on a leash and is coming along great in her house training.! We feel so lucky to have her, and knows you'll feel lucky too when you adopt her!"
