Wes and his brother Kenny came from an especially deplorable place. They were born in a holler to a careless family and when they were young and small their "people" (and I use that term loosly) decided to give them all away and keep two. 9 months later they decided that they really didn't want the boys they kept and needed them to go immediately. Our rescuer went to see them in their environment and was warned not to go alone. They arrived at this hovel prepared for bad but not as bad as they saw. First they encountered a stone alter with animal skulls, a cross and some strange writing. Then they found theh dogs' pen. It was a filthy muddy mess filled with what appeared to turtle shells. The dogs were filthy and desperate for attention. Turns out that their primary diet was turtles. The "people" would catch them...slit them open and drop then in for the dog to eat. This situation was beyond horrible and inhumane and just plain gross on so many levels. Thankfully they are now with HART and despite their terrible beginnings they are wonderful, friendly and affectionate boys who love people and want to please. They are good with other dogs and are working on their house manners.
