This sweet boy was a stray who was caught in a trap and brought to a shelter in VA a few months ago. Thomas is scared and is not used to being around people. We are looking for an adopter who has experience working with very fearful dogs and will take things slow and give him lots of time to learn that he doesn't need to be scared anymore. He has shown no signs of aggression, but will try to hide when he is scared.

Once he is settled he will attach himself to the his people, especially women. He is more fearful of men so he needs a home either without men or with very patient men who understand it may take him a long time to bond. He is gentle but spooks very easily, so a calm, quiet home is best.

Thomas is good with other dogs and has been in a home with two other dogs. He didn't seem to pay any attention to them at first, but then he started watching them and following their lead. He has started to play occasionally with the dogs in his current foster home, but still is nervous about being part of the pack. He would do best in a home with another dog who is confident and outgoing. He pays no attention to cats.

Thomas is crate trained, but he does not need to be crated. He finds dog beds to be "safe spaces". He is not a chewer, and is overall very well-behaved. He is trained to reliably use potty pads and is working on learning to go potty outside, but the great outdoors is still a scary place. He is just beginning to accept a leash, but still does not want to walk with it on.
