The shelter described Onyx as a little bit sad and a lot sweet, and we think that is very accurate. He is sad at having lost his family and, while at the shelter, seemed to look for them every time a car pulled up. But they were never coming back for him, having been forced by circumstances to move in with a family member who was both allergic to and afraid of dogs. Before that, Onyx belonged to a family with 2 children, ages 6 and 10.
His former owner said he was completely housetrained, and was good with the children and loved them. In fact, Onyx seems to love all people. He has been good with the dogs he's met. He needs to learn some additional manners, such as not pulling on the leash, but he's a sweet, good-natured dog, longing to once again have a family of his own.
