We do not know where things went so terribly wrong for Cullen but what we do know is that the world utterly broke this poor guy and we are slowly working to put him together again.

Cullen came in shut down and had given up on life. In his foster home he has made slow and steady progress towards figuring out what it means to be a dog. He has never shown any aggression and we have yet to hear him bark. He does well with other dogs and has even played with his fosters dogs a few times. As part of his recovery he should be in a home with another confident dog to help him find his way again. He also needs a securely fenced yard. His crate is his safe place. He has learned to take treats from his foster mom and dinner is his favorite time. He will wag his tail when his foster mom approaches or talks to him but he hasn't yet been brave enough to approach for pets. He does accept pets and he won't tell you this but he actually kind of likes it! He will lean his head in for a good ear scratch and lift his leg for a belly rub. He loves a good chew toy.

We don't know if he will ever be a "normal" dog but he has made so much progress that we are excited to see what the future holds for him. If you have the heart and patience to help a dog who desperately needs you but just doesn't know it yet perhaps you can be the one to help put the rest of his pieces together and love him for everything he is and accept him for everything he is not.
