Juniper was abandoned outside a rural shelter in Appalachia. She was severely underweight and since she is new to us she is still exceedingly thin. When we heard her story, including how sweet she is, we asked the Animal Control Officer to take her to the vet (on our dime) for assessment and the vet said on a body weight scale of 1 to 9 for assessing weight, she was a 1 or a 2. Meaning that she is severely underweight. After a full assessment the vet informed us that her low body weight was the result of intestinal parasites which she has been treated for now and is slowly gaining some weight. Notwithstanding severe neglect in her young life, Juniper is the most loving of dogs. The people at the vet told us that she was a gentle giant and "as sweet of a dog as you will ever find." Juniper's foster family have told us that Juniper is a wonderful dog. Here is what they shared with us: "Juniper LOVES people and just wants their love. She will lean on you and go from person to person to get pets. She is very calm and well behaved. She knows sit, lay down, and paw. She is housebroken and will get up and guide me to the back door when she needs to go to the bathroom." She will pull on walks when she sees birds, squirrels and rabbits so leash training will be needed to get her to walk nicely on the leash. Juniper is a pure example of the indominable sprit of dogs. If you are interested in this gentle giant please let us know.
