It's so hard on a dog when a loving owner dies. Even harder when the relatives are coldly indifferent to whether the dog lives or dies, and can't be bothered to take them to a shelter. Such was the case for Elmo, After his owner died unexpectedly, Elmo, another dog, and a puppy were left alone in the house. A kind neighbor fed them and assumed relatives would soon come and take the dogs. The relatives came all right. They loaded a truck with anything of value, took the puppy, and abandoned Elmo and his companion with the front door wide open and a busy road just feet from the door. Fortunately before the abandoned dogs left the house, the kind neighbor secured them and called a rescue.
Elmo is the sweetest dog with the most adorably wrinkly face. He is very affectionate, and loves to give hugs and kisses and cuddles on the couch. If you are hanging out with him, he will lean up against you, or lay next to you and very carefully put his head on your foot just so he can be touching you.
Elmo is crate trained and housetrained. He is food motivated but takes treats gently. He is doing very well learning his leash manners. He is good with dogs and children, and with training would likely be good with cats. He is a bit clumsy and a little drooly when he drinks water, but it just adds to his adorably goofy character. Elmo is a sweet boy who just wants a person or family to love him as much as he will love them.
